Default Recommend a web host?

I've been using MD web hosting for a few years now (I could give you a few things I think MD stand for, but they might not pass the swear filter) and last Saturday was the last straw for their list of stuff-ups. I asked to get ownership on one file transfered to me (CHOWN) and instead they changed the permissions on EVERY single file and folder on all of my directories, then asked that I fixed it myself without explanation, apology or help. Nice 'support'.

So anyway, what can anyone here recommend as far as Australian hosts go? I will also be recommending it to all my clients I create websites for, so if anyone here is running a company there will be a fair bit of business going through it. Apart from the obvious, it needs to have:

MYSQL databases
PHP support etc
Lots of bandwidth
A fair amount of space

Thanks for any recommendations.

I was going to recommend who i use, but then i saw you want Aussie hosting so they are out.

Other then that they have everything you have on your list for a great price.

I have 17gb and 210gb transfer for $10US a month

Pity they arent Australian

At work here we use WebCentral, very good service, can't fault them, up-time and speed are both brilliant... We do spend a fair bit with them though, and they probably pretty pricey..

One downside is that they only do IIS, unless you have a dedicated server...

Check out Jumba HERE.
I have three websites hosting with them, and I cannot compliment them highly enough on their prices, service, speed and uptime!
They have many different plans available as well as Aussie or US hosting.
They also have a forum which is very helpful as well.
Please take the time to check these guys out!
Good luck in your quest! :

EDIT: They also offer reseller packages which would be good for your clients
If you have any Q's about them chuck me a PM

www.unlimited-space.com

Using them for my cricket club's website. Seem OK so far, but it has only been up for a few months.

I use SmartyHost for my own personal web site, but might consider moving that over to Unlimited Space next year when it's up. Never had any troubles, but then again, I haven't done anything with it.

+1 for Jumba here, I've got some hosting + a domain name registered through them, they seem to be really good.

Now if I could only get off my butt and actually put something useful on it instead of just a "coming soon".

There is really no option but to go overseas for any server needs that require decent bandwidth.

If you want to look into what you need I can put you on to the guy I deal with, that way I get a kickback, LOL. But seriously I have been with these guys for a few years now and have just had them build me a new server as I launch a new site and redesign my main site.

Intel Dual Core Series "Premium" Dedicated Server: 2 x Intel "Woodcrest" Dual Core CPU; 2 GB DDR2 RAM; 3 x 73 GB SCSI HD, RAID5; 1 TB Monthly Transfer.
Backup to tape every night off-site, netscreen 5 dedicated firewall. managed patching and anti-virus, bi-weekly vulnerability scans etc. etc. For $867.95 USD per month.
