Have recently had 3 adults in the back of the LTD and found that the rear springs seemed to be too soft and every bump I hit seemed to send a bang through the rear.
I assume this was the car hitting the bump stops!!! Is this normal when loading up the LWB Fords as without anyone in the back the suspension seems fine. Which brand of springs would be suitable as replacements? I still want a nice soft limo ride LTD has 160000 Kms with original springs and shocks |

hi, maybe with 160ks your original shocks might be dead, therefor not controling the spring, making it just bounce up and down and with the weight hitting the bumpstops. kings and munroe shocks seem to be good, but even if you dont want to lower it you can buy heavy duty springs which are stiffer than normal and take the weight easy!

Thanks for the reply.
You could be right about the shockers being worn out although I did try a bounce test and seems O.K. If I put heavy duty springs on will it effect the ride quality as I like the soft ride I get when not loaded up. |

dont they have self levelling suspension?? turn the key to on with your foot on the brake and automatically levels it out???

No self leveling suspension unfortunately. They did away with it after the EL's I think. It was a good idea but prone to playing up after a few years.

grab some BOGE shocks.. nice quality and a good price!.. not harsh but still stiff enough to handle great..
used on porche and stuff.. and possibly just some replacment springs(standard spec from kingsprings etc) i do notice alot of fairlane taxis with a few people in the back get VERY LOW in the rear

Excuse my ignorance but how does adjusting the tyre pressure stop the suspension hitting the bump stops????
