Greetings to all in Hobart.
I am coming to your fair city on Sat 6th through to Thurs 11th October for a holiday (from Melbourne). As a V8 revhead, I am desperate to know where is the place to be among fellow ford supporters on the most revered day of the year. (If anyone suggests the front window of Myer, you will be sent to Port Arthur.) I would assume the biggest screens would be at the casino - but no atmosphere. Are any car clubs having a get together (with 50" plasmas & 5.1 surround) And any tips as to what to do for the other 3/4 days. Cheers |

Go shopping at Myers.
I here they have some hot deals right now.......... Sorry couldn't help myself. No idea where to see the great race. Whilst in the Hobart region though, a must is to pop down to Port Arthur, a great spot |

Firstly , if you have a "Very Nice Ford" I'd suggest you leave it at home , or don't take it to the track , specially up the top of the hill (Reid Park etc') many come away "unscathed" but be prepared for a "few dents & scratches"
A couple of locals from here 150k's away , take on old "hacker" , or leave your good car in town . Opposing teams + VB , Barbwire (XXXX) or the stubby brigade can get a bit rough . I don't know how others have got on but a few locals have come back with very 2nd hand cars ,(if you've been the last few years and found it different , please make your comments). If Accomodation is short (it's getting pretty late), there are some people who'll rent a room , or close towns are Blayney , Orange or Lithgow . Some people book 12 months in advance . Worth having a look a here http://www.ausgo.com.au/accommodatio..._australia.htm carnutt

Joe's Garage is an ABSOLUTE MUST VISIT for anyone going to Hobart. Bar type affair completey decorated with motorsport memorabilia like you wouldn't believe. You could spend a week in there and still miss stuff.
The seats you sit on will be crankshafts bolted to the floor with seats bolted on top. THe tables will be V8 engine blocks with a glass top sitting across where the intake manifold would normally go.. But that's nothing... The walls, ceiling, everywhere is just mind boggling. Had a memorable night in there once doing burnouts inside the bar on a motorbike with Anthony Gobert, LOL. They would have to be doing something for the V8s. As for what to do on the other days... Hire a decent car or bike and do a lap via the mountain roads. Some awesome driving roads in Tassie. I haven't done Port Arthur but here it is just superb. The lunch trip up the river from Launceston is nice and pretty cheap. Just don't skimp and don't do things because of money, just load up the credit card and do the expensive things like scenic flights and boats and worry about paying for it later. You might be dead before they call in the debts and this might be your only chance to do it.
