Default Younger people out there - Living in Mackay?

Anyone here around 20-25 years living in Mackay? What's the lifestyle like? I've been offered a job in one of the engineering consultancies, and may be moving there in 1-2 months.

Cheers!

Mackay is a very nice place to live. the people are very friendly but I wouldn't like to try and buy a house there now.

Hmm I don't live there but I went there for work for a week once... from my very limited time I can say the people were fairly ok, a lot of young fellas go out to the mines, get loaded with cash and then blow it all on expensive toys, go broke then come back to Mackay looking for another job.

The beaches and the scenery were pretty good, its nowhere near as hot as Cairns either. Cairns also doesn't have much of a decent beach close to town whereas Mackay does. There's also an island just off the coast which looks really cool.

The roads.... well they were shite and I was kind of concerned because the rental car agency's agreement basically said taking the car on unsealed or rough roads was a no-no... well that excludes half of frickin Mackay maties!

All in all it seemed like the typical North Queensland regional city centre - laid back, touristy and fairly tropical.

Yeah? Just the usual blues, or do people go out looking to make trouble?

Also was it just me, or doesn't the city center seem all that clean, particularly between the southern pioneer river side and the beach? Rundown old industrial buildings, unmowed council grass etc? I only really got to see this side of the place.

Having said that I noticed a lot of road works and gardening going on. Is there a program or something?

Sorry about all the questions, but I don't have the time to go and scope the place any better with work commitments, and I only have around a fortnight to accept the offer.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I used to live there, and still wish i was there. Its a good Temperture, and its a very Car orientated town, with the most HSV's in queensland being sold in Mackay. But yeah, the party and club scene is pretty hectic, and yes there are knobs who do go out looking for trouble, but what city dosent i guess.
