Divide by 11.
ie - $1.00 item + GST = $1.10 $1.10 divided by 11 = 10c... The GST amount.

GST is 10%. the way i do it is say somthing costs $100. you do 100 x .10 = $10. then add that to the origional amount. 100 + 10. its probably the longest way but i find it the easiest

if the number has gst included
i always just divide by 110, then multiply that answer by 100. probably an easier way than that but i still do it that way :

Easiest way is divide by 1.1.
So 5.50/1.1 = 5

Otherwise it is (total invoice - GST free supplies) / 11 i.e Total invoice = $150 GST free = $40 Then GST paid = ($150-$40)/1.1 = $110/11 = $10 |

On your Safeway/Woolworths/Purity/Roelf Vos docket, it has a star stating, "taxable items".

as in the second post just divide the gst inclusive price by 11 and the result is the gst. mulitiply that by 10 to get the un taxed price.
to work out gst on a price that is $xxx +gst you divide the $xxx by 10 and then multiply the result by 11 to get the gst inclusive price.
