Default diff breather

Hello,

Got under my car this afternoon and noticed the breather hose for the diff was split down just above the clamp. I have no idea how long it's been like it.

Sometimes, usually in power mode, once I hit 60km/h and back off the throttle I hear an audible 'pop' that seems to come from under and sort of behind the rear seats.
Is there a chance it was like that before I bought it and in that time it's sucked into the diff and has caused some wear and tear?

The car is still under statutory warranty, so trying to get everything sorted before christmas. I'm still working out whether they fixed the oil leak this time! If not, I'll be upping my mood from friendly and understanding to slightly annoyed and demanding.

Cheers

PS: I've taken the torn peice of hose off and slid what's left over the pipe, but I doubt it's going to do a whole lot of good. The hose looks like it goes into the cars framework under the rear seats.. I hope it's either covered under warranty or doesn't cost much to get replaced. :(

to clarify, the hose was dangling down in no mans land, it wasn't merely split. Sorry.
