jus wonderin is there any difference between the 1.6 and the 2.0 litre struts on the mk 2 escort?

From 1977 the coil spring had a larger spring diametre and bigger seat. Same as Capris/Twin Cam Escort (but no removeable steering arm). The strut top is different, but they are interchangeable. Bugger all difference in spring rate.
If you are upgrading from 1.6 to 2.0lt you just have to retain the strut top from the original car. |

I disagree with the above.
You'll find 1.6 struts have a smaller diameter spring than the 2lt along with a different insert. Top hats are the same depending on when it was made. Earlier Escorts have large strut top, later ones have small strut tops. Brake are the same.

If its already say a 78' model then the 1600 strut top (not spring hat) can be used on 2lt struts. But struts are different. If he has a 1976 model with 1600 struts and wants to put 2lt struts in from a post 77' model then all of it but strut top goes straight in. Eh....getting to confusing. I think we both know what we mean. Best bet for 1974 XB Falcon is to follow Mickas links are read up and it should all be clear.

I think you're right....we've definately confused the hell out of him. I'd better not start taking about 2lt panel van suspension, or this could go on for years. |
