i was driving about today and i was going down a hill and i thought to myself wow the brake feels really light all of a sudden and it doesnt seem to be doing anything, then the brake failure light came on (!) for about 2 seconds then went off and then braking was back to normal and has been for the rest of the trip.
just wondering if that indicates a problem coming on or what could cause that, its an AU series 1 , no ABS. |

no leaks in the system????
Either an issue with brake booster or master cylinder on it's way out. I'd be getting a mechanic to check it out straight away. Next time the light might just stay on ... and you won't have any brakes at all.

yeh i checked the fluid level, its a bit over max, so no leaks. i rang my mechanic this morning and he said he'll take a look at it today, and he also said the master cylinder may need replacing

Yeah, my old EF did exactly the same things a few years back. Driving to the mechanic the next day went to hit the brakes only to find the pedal went to the floor and no brakes (God bless handbrakes). Was the diaphragm in the brake booster. Cost a couple of hundred to replace. Did the master cylinder not too long after. Get it checked and replaced ASAP.

yeh i took it down to the mechanic on friday who chekced it out, when you put your foot on the brake, after awhile it slowly starts to sink to the floor. if you release the pedal then the tension comes back then starts sinking again.
so its going in tomorrow to have the master brake cylinder replaced, he said it would be about $200 (probably work out to be a bit more though) which didnt seem to bad? |
