Next week i will be going to see a 79, 2L manual escort as i need a daily in the next few months till i get the xr6t.
i dont know a whole lot about the car however it has a fully retrimmed interior, bucket seats, simmons rims, exhaust, extractors, webber and cam mods. downside is even though its straight and have a tiny bit of managable rust, the car apparently has patches of bog which isnt to much of a problem. for a car as listed above (on paper) is worth around the 2500 mark? Id like to think that since the interior is retrimmed and engine modded that with a few paint touch ups it could be worth a nice amount more? Though if i was to get it i will most likely drive it for a few months, get the XR6T, then pull this off the road and do some serious suspension mods and turn it into a hills/track car which would be my pay off for buying a auto xr6t lol. so any advice on things to look out for? or questions to ask apart from the obvious. also one final question, a 2L with those mods ( i know are very vaigue) how much power would it likely make assuming the cam was relatively mild ? 60 kw atws? im someone who has more of a grounding in imports/turbos than ols school carby's so i am really out of my depth here thanks guys |

Rust is the main bug-bear. If its got noticeable rot, haggle the price down has far as you can go as its often difficult to fix. You didn't mention whether it was a 2 or a 4 dr. Coupe are worth a lot more and there's more scope for body mods like flared arches/bigger wheels and tyres etc. The pinto is good for 160bhp at the fly which doesn't sound much, but in a sub-1000kg shell it will smoke most NA 4cyls and your average 6cyl family sedan. You can stretch that figure to 180-190 with massive valves and twin webers, but you are looking at big dollars. My RS2000 was dyno at 130 at the fly running a V6 Capri carb and was only 1/2 sec slower to 100kph than an Integra type R....I did a bit of comparison work on my sisters Honda when she was on holiday in Europe. :evil3:
