weird battery warning light

Hey guys, need some help.
i have an AU II fairmont ghia and in the last 4 weeks have replaced the alternater and the battery with new items, but reciently the battery warning light has been coming on and staying on for minutes at a time. Although whilst the light is on the voltage doesn't drop and i have noticed no ill effects. does anyone know if this is a problem and its possible causes? thanks guys.

Sounds like an earthing issue.
Check all earthing spots around the engine bay.

Also check the main lead to the alternator; they are unfortunately placed close to the engine where they get hot and brittle so they fray and partially break inside. If it feels stiff and brittle you will need to cut of the bit closest to the alternator and ensure you replace it with another very thick high current wire. Use hi amp anderson connectors to join the wires and it will make it easier to disconnect the alternator as well.

Mine has started doing exactly the same thing!! Looks like a wiring/earth check is on the cards!

Mine too, has done it for ages, but theres been no probs with battery or alternator

so you've had no i'll effects from it? eg. flat battery.

No nothing at all. It only comes on every now and then -stays on for a while (5 mins or so ) then disappears again. Absolutely no problems though.

Whilst your In this Situation , let me point out that from past experiance , 9 times out of 10 , this is a Very Good Indication that your Alternator is about to go , Sure it Starts and everything now .. give it time and it will go eventually..

Mine Went a Few Weeks ago , Battery Light Came on one day and a few days later , Driving home at night , all the ABS and Seatbelt Lights came on , headlights Dimmed and CD Player went all in Stages , then she came to a Halt.

Rang Darren at FTG AutoSalvage and he Couriered a BA/BF Bosch 80 Alternator over to the door for $88 Bucks !

So , whilst its still moving dude , get it checked

Yeah , im sure mines just a faulty light because its been like it for about 2 years now. But for anyone else - you should get it checked.

when my power steering high pressure line was leaking out hte back of the O-ring in the rear of the pump
it was dripping on the alternator and a few times the battery light would flicker on and off at start up (which alerted me to the leaking Power steering pump)

i grabbed some CRC LECTRA CLEAN in aerosol form at work and sprayed the heck out of the alternator

no more problems .. over 6 mths ago now

Hi guys had the same problem with my AU series 1 had the battery replaced two years ago and the light still comes on randomly tried brake pedal reverse any thing that draws current but nothing battery has never gone flat must have been crook battery 2 years ago disconected leads and replaced them all that did was make me head off to Q Ford with the rego papers and they gave me a code for the stereo still no change so I just live with it JOHN
