IF your coming up fraser island way, pop a lil further north and visit Bundaberg,
Go for a tour of our local rum factory you will love it. If coming over make sure you have a working visa, if planing on driving dozers, might be tricky, as you need all the equivalant papers, generic mines licence the lot stick with labouring for builders, building industrie is going of big time in alot of places. Or do the usual back packer thing and pick crops. Nathan |

I'd recommend the top end (NT) for a visit...Kakadu, Litchfield, Arnhem Land.
Construction and mining industries have a pretty high turnover and usually always on the lookout for employees.

In all seriousness, driving at dusk and dawn on the open country roads can be quite dangerous, especially if there are kangaroos around. They can cause some very nasty damage to a car when struck, and even come through the windscreen.

If you head to coonawarra for the wines and stuff, you gotta drop into the naracoorte caves (bout 20 min north) they are amazing and are south australia's only world heritage area. there are options of ones that you can walk through, through to full on adventure caving.
On a side note about the driving slagging off personally I reckon its the south aussies that you need to look out for, much worse the vic and Ive lived in both. |

There is also lots of mines over in Perth, Western Australia. I would assume they would have the same problem as over here with all the workers moving out of town for bigger salaries and leaving plenty of jobs in the city. With your skills mate, they will ask you to stay for good. |

If your heading to the red centre to see Uluru (Ayres rock) than a must do is the Sounds-of-Silence dinner.
A candle lit dinner out in the open in the middle of the desert. Then before dessert an astronomer tells you about the southern night sky with storys and legends from around the world. There are so many stars visible out there that the local aboriginal people named the balck spaces between them rather than the star constellations themselves. It's one of the most amazing evenings I've ever had.

Having been there a few times, before they put tar on the airstrip, I'd have to say sit around an open fire and get a local to tell stories of the rock. Although you'll need a few hours to get through ALL the stories/legends.

Watch out when driving in Country Vic, up my way the Kangaroos seem to enjoy sitting in the middle of the road just right around a corner.
^^ Reminds me of what a work mate was telling me, how he used to test the FPV cars in NT. At night time all these animals come crawling out of the woodwork, camels kangaroos everything lol. Makes me laugh.

and it is closer to the parts of australia you will want to see like tropical north queensland great barrier reef the witsunday islands and northern territory. Brisbane gold coast area has alot of work for framers and excavator operators, bulldozers not so much as australians dont tend to use them as much as you do in Canada .Like it is quite rare to see a dozer smaller than a D6 working on projects.dozers here are mainly used for bulk earthworks and pushing scrapers. You could see sydeney in a day. the harbor is nice but other than that its just a big city ,the canadian equivelent would be Toronto, people that live there think it is so great and the rest off the country hate it. Melbourne is nice, Canadian equivelent would be Montreal lots of cultural stuff and it looks nice, all the Canadians that i know prefer melbourne over sydney. Queenslands equivelent would be british columbia. its got all the natural beauty and the stuff you want too see like crocidiles, rainforest, outback ,the reef for diving /swimming. As for the rest of the country its worth a look but base yourself in queensland and fly to where you want to go. |

Karijini is the most under-rated tourist destination in Australia. About 2000km north of Perth.
The Buccaneer Archipelago, couple of hundred kilometres north of Broome is the most fantastic thing I have ever seen.
