Thanks for all of the advice, people. There's some reasonable suggestions there (and some unreasonable ones!).
I've got three months to think about it yet. I'm lucky to have the choice, but there's too much choice out there, I think. A basically pointless "just for weekends" car appeals at the moment - like a Cobra or something. No point in being sensible about it, is there?

Just curious as to whether you're being given 40k or is it a case of the missus allowing you to pull a loan for 40k to spend on yourself? If it's being given to you then go nuts LOL but if it's a loan to spend on yourself then spend wisely since you'll have to pay it back.

it doesn't sound like your short on cash or you wouldn't be getting $40,000.
http://www.my105.com.au/classified.asp?id=8132 Thats what i'd buy, they have about 150 odd horsepower which doesn't sound like much but they destroy the latest Ford GT40 around a track and have roughly the same 1/4 mile time so there not lacking in performance. or http://www.my105.com.au/classified.asp?id=8102 Formula 3, fair bit quicker, dangerous if you have never raced open wheelers before though

theres a catch there . save the 40k for a good lawyer. say to yourself everyday. i wont have a midlife crises. i wont have a midlife crisis. make sure she can hear you.
make it a chant . i wont have a mislife crisis , i wont have a midlife crises, i dont need a 20 year old chick with unsensitive taste buds. you just might get a better sex life ( with your missus) and while your at it , buy a 20k harley, and save the other 20k for a good lawyer . just incase a catch comes with the 40k. she might be trading you in , and that's your payout figure. ( just kidding buddy) good on her for saying that, she's obviously looking after her best interest ( you). make the most of it . and enjoy mate. |

Get yourself an FPV ...That's what I've just done at 45 after 15 years of driving sedate cars and having a young family
Now feel like I'm 22 again when I owned my XA 302 Coupe Nothing wrong with having a mid life...They say you have at least 2 in a lifetime Enjoy

Your profile says your date of birth is 5 September 1978, so that means you are going to turn 30 later this year, in which case $40k won't buy you jack S@#t in 10 years time!!! |

Spend the $40k on some really good hookers, or $40,000 $1 ones.
