G'day all, if anyone has info for Phil it would be appreciated.
"My vehicle is a 1990 Ford EA Falcon GL Series II. I am having trouble finding the maximum optional size tyre width for my vehicle because the factory tyre specifications for the (GL) is 185mm and the (S, Fairmont Ghia, DA LTD) is 205mm. Can I base the maximum optional size tyre width based on 205mm even though my vehicle (GL) doesn't fit under the (S, Fairmont Ghia, DA LTD) category? Both categories are EA model cars. I know under QLD legislation, a tyre cannot exceed 1.3 times the factory width of a tyre. Based on the 205mm tyre, can I go up to 265mm? (205mm x 1.3 = 266.5mm) or 235mm because my car is a GL? (185mm x 1.3 = 240.5) Thanks Phil" |

Your car was designed to have 15x7 rims from the factory running 205/65/15 tyres.
Legaly this may not work as your car is a GL, however you could argue that Spac had same suspension design. You could go 265/50/15 on an 8" rim looking at it from that angle.

Thanks for this.
Actually you can fit 265/50/15's on the original factory 7" wheels if you say 7" is the factory rim/mag width? Yokohama says so, imagine that tight fit! http://www.yokohama.com.au/tyres/Tyr...uctItemID=1565 They also sell 235mm 13" wheels, good for those little cars. I'll send an email to Yokohama and ask about if 265's can go on EA GL's even though its not a SPak, Fairmont Ghia, or DA LTD car. |

Basically, you can go from whatever the largest tyre size is that's written on the placquard, found on the drivers door in E-Series Falcons.
If his placquard has 205/60R15 or whatever size he's after, then he'll be able to fit the wider tyres.
