are your front brakes single or twin piston?
PBR made the stock brakes for the series 2 AU's. probably series 1 as well, but ive never been up close to have a look on a series 1.

The problem with series 1 brakes is to do with sizing, not brand. The single-piston front calipers don't have enough pad area to provide the braking force that people expect in a car of that size and weight. The 2-piston calipers used from AUII on have almost double the pad area which improves performance enormously.
If you put the series 1 brakes on say an XC or XD Falcon, they'd be more than adequate.

IIRC the standard brakes on fpv's are PBR. as stated the poor braking is more about being too small. the PBR brand has been fitted to aussie fords for quite some time now.

If they are the S1 brakes, you just can't stick S2-3 gear on there. You need larger wheels 16inch to fit over the S2-3 callipers, also the uprights, sway bay setup and lower control arm is all different. IIRC the master cylinder is also metal, instead of the plaso S1 item. I did a brake upgrade on my S1 wagon mid last year, everything mentioned above bar the master cylinder, but I added rda slotted rotors. Works, soooooooo much better. I was getting really sick and tired of the Mrs putting her hands on the dash expecting a crash, every time we were in it together. You see, my daily driver is a S2 SR, and I was braking the same in the wagon as I did in the SR! LOL! These are S1 single calliper items. GK

Please note that the rda slotteds aren't painted on the hub, and I had to do this myself (after they had rusted - LOL!). When I put a set on the SR, I was sure to paint them first!
You can see what I mean in the pic of the rotors, the paint has rubbed off from where the rotor contacts with the wheel. You can't see it though. Here's me getting rid of the rust! LOL! De-rusting and painting rotors http://www.fordforums.com.au/showpos...2&postcount=68 BTW, dba rotors are painted on the hub, but I've heard many a bloke here and a few brake places as well say that they give more warping issues than rda products do. That has certainly been my experience also. All the best with your decision. Cheers, GK

I only changed my booster because I was disappointed at the dead, heavy pedal feel after upgrading the front brakes. I have a S3 as well, and its pedal was very light, feelsome and responsive in comparison. I suspect my booster was just rooted after 300,000km and a new S1 booster might have been sufficient. The pedal is so much lighter and responsive on my car that the S3's pedal feels dead and heavy now. :togo:
