My sister had an Oscar a few years back, lived for about 7 years. Cool fish to have. Use to feed it mince and bits of meat, flies etc.
She went out and bought some small yabbies to keep Oscar company and put them in the tank. Next morning she wondered where they went :

Had a Red Devil in a 4 foot tank once, grew from about 5 inches to 13 inches, was very aggressive tried to attack anyone walking past the tank, then one day when I was cleaning the out side of the tank, he came full song from the other end to attack me, forgot about the glass wall & killed himself with impact.....blood from the gills an all.....I was quite upset at the time
