Default Any one else in Adelaide finding it hard to get an apprenticeship?

Hey fellas I've been trying to get into a apprenticeship in refrigeration/air conditioning for a while but it seems to me people only want either fully qualified people or 2nd/3rd years with decent experience? Ive done a pre voc in electrical (originally wanted to be a sparky), searched the net, applied with a few people with no luck, scoured the yellow pages and rang around..... Any way I have had no luck at all and just wondering if anyone else has gone through this? If you have had success who was it with and how long were you looking for? Also does anyone know of any companies/people that are looking for an apprentice?

my mate just left a job at royal rewind's on port road recently and he did his apprenticeship thru them. They are always looking for more workers.

They mainly rebuild and service motors for air conditioners for building and recently serviced the fans units in the heysen tunnels.

Here are their details

Yeah, I was looking for an apprenticeship in mechanics. IMPOSSIBLE!

But on Tuesday next week I'm going in to try out gyp rock fixing. And if they like me and I like it, I'll have an apprenticeship in that.

Heaps of gyprockers already out there man. But if your willing, strong and fit, you can earn decent money.

My mate is a cornicer, not as demanding physically as a fixer but if you like showing attention to detail, learning that trade can earn plenty. He used to work at woolworths prior to cornicing too so had to learn it all by experience from another bloke. Had to work for free for a week or so to get the know how then it all progress from there.

Fixing is good, but you'll find your body wont want to hold out for many years.

If your still keen on the plasterboard industry, consider sanding or flushing. They can earn some excellent rates if your good, and quick.

Are you sure thats what you want to do? Ive thought about changing many times from what I originally wanted since its harder to get into than I thought but I keep thinking I'll probably end up unhappy and want to get out of it... Anyway Ive seen plenty of mechanic apprentice ads, mainly from careerone from Saturday Advertiser just thought I'd let you know

I don't know. It's a days work experience, to see if I want to do it or not.

I like that sort of stuff as well. I wanted to be in the Construction Industry or a Mechanic.

I'll just see how it goes.
