Default IRS rear shock mount

for a while now my car has had a clunk when turning corners at low speeds, i though it might be the diff or the tailshaft but i read up on the forum about it and im fairly sure now it is my rear shock mounts.

i went out this morning and came across this

drivers side im guessing this is a little worn but generally what they are suppose to look like.

passenger side, this one has collapsed alot and it actually resting on the body of the car.

to fix these do you just drop the shocks put the new shock rubber mounts in and put the shocks back up? how much roughly would it be to get this fixed?

also do you know if this could also be the problem for my diff bounce. it sounds like the diff is hitting the floor, maybe its the shock hitting the mount.

The diff cant hit the floor as its mounted in the cradle and doesnt move, the drive shafts move up and down though, so does the rear struts so looking at your pics, it will definatly be the strut hitting.

Just had a look at the workshop manual and looks like in the diagram that they do sit opposite to what they are in these pics, so looks like they have been changed atleast and not installed right.

well they would be removed to change shocks so presumably thats when its been played with...

which is why they have sort of cut into your rubber surround mate
the busted ones usually just move up and down not like that..

they are pretty cheap to replace if you fit them your self

good luck

so can anyone give me a simple write up on how to do the job.

i was thinking that the shocks would need to get dropped, and then the rubber fitted.

yep
$90ea approx from ford for a replacment upper strut mount
the top piece is 2 halfs.. 1 is the spring seat which slides into the bit you see there

just bang it on the ground a few times or get a mate to pull the halfs apart and then just slide new one on and re install
