Cheers Colonel,

think my garage door may be a bit low. May have to get the sedan then. Will measure tonight.

mmm... begs the question as to why would you drive into or out of the garage with the boot/hatch open? Just wondering why that would affect your choice of vehicle.

Just when the car is stationary in the garage, with garage door open. My garage door is not the rolling up type, slides up and sits under the ceiling.

Then do as I have done and fit a buffer pad (large enough to cover the odd inch or two in parking difference) to the inside opf the garage door. I have used a length of wood bolted to the floor to set my drive in distance.

Works for me anyway.

you can always put a strap on the door frame to limit how far it goes up. You could even go as far as having one of the struts shortened, strut repair/regas shop should be able to do it without much trouble.

Might be cheaper to change the garage door to a roller type.

That is a great idea! Might be a problem with warranty, but I had a 87 Peugeot 205 GTi hatch which had the original struts, and the person who has it now hasn't had any trouble with them. Not like the ones on the XD wagons.
