Is the 2.0 Zetec engine in the Focus CL auto the same as the one in the Zetec spec level model? If yes, then is a corollary of this that one can increase maximum power output on a CL auto by 13% by simply running it on premium unleaded petrol?

The engine is the same as the Zetec 2 Litre (ie bore, stroke, everything), the level of tuning is what restricts its power. While the engine should run better on PULP, you won't get the full effect unless the computer is tuned to run Premium also.
You can get an aftermarket chip from places like www.infocusmotorsport.com.au and go right on past the standard Zetec power if you wanted to. Tim |

Thanks Nikki ;o) I spend enough bloody time here and with other Focus owners and with my head under my car to know well enough after 2 years of owning one now!!!
The Zetec 2.0 in Premium spec is running a 10:1 compression ratio, on top of the 95-ROM Premium fuel requirement through slightly more advanced ignition timing and fuel mapping in the engine computer. Other than that, Tim is spot on, bore and stroke is identical and they are visually identical engines externally. Both engines actually run the same compression ratio which is quite high for a 2.0 litre of such relatively low technical force. What they lack in power and valve timing they make up for on torque and smoothness. Very good base engine for mods too. You won't get the power on simple premium, only slightly better fuel economy and power. It needs to have the ignition timing advanced in the engine computer to make better use of the higher grade fuel. Basically a better fuel has a higher chance of complete combustion and thus the spark can be set off earlier, closer to the start of the piston's downward stroke giving it a bigger push and thus more power/torque. Sparking too early causes knocking, which can be very bad to an engine's health by setting off a spark while the piston is still travelling upwards... not pretty.

Hey huys. talking about engines I got a (dumb) question for ya....
I got a 06 Focus Zetec and am planning on getting a turbo kit installed and need to know what type of engine I have. Now I would presume that I have a 2.0 zetec engine, however the plastic cover on top on the engie says duratec. Now I'm confused? is it a zetec or duratec? how do I tell? |

You have a Duratec. The Zetec engine was the one they put in the previous model (LR) focus.
And a suggestion... don't put a turbo in it. Just sell it and buy an XR5 turbo. Would probably be much more worth it. Admittedly, I've thought about putting one in mine, as I have become quite attached to mine!! So if you do go ahead with putting a turbo in, tell me where you got it from. And install pics Regan

I found Wikipedia to be pretty good for info in this area:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Fo...l%29#Engines_2 I agree with edgecrusher89, though I still think a turbo would be cool |

Yeah couldn't be botherd staring a new thead partically when there was already one here on a similar topic. I'm new to the forums and was just browins through.
I wanted to buy the xr5 but didn't have the money and at the time i was desperate. Since then I have fallen in love and wouldn't trade my car in for anything especially since the modifications I have already done to it. check it out http://members.westnet.com.au/veloci...?photocatid=18 |

One of my friends owns a shop in Dandenong Vic. "Pure Performance Motorsport". I'm gonna get him to put the turbo on as well as an engine rebuild. ie: new conrods and stuff. (technical details are a little over my head lol). I've already done the brakes and coil overs.

you can run a turbo kit on your car with about 7-8 psi of boost.
there are kits from say www.focussport.com.au. You are correct that the Newer Focus has the Duratec engine which is really a mazda engine. The original focus (LR) had a Zetec-E engine, the new focus has a Duratec focus. The only benifit of the Zetec-E engine over the Duratec is that the zetec has a cast iron block and cast iron head ( i am lead to believe) and the duratec is an all alluminium head (&block?). Obviously cast iron is stronger and alluminium is weaker. Get your mate too look onto sites such as www.pumaseed.co.uk www.pumabuild.co.uk www.focussport.com http//:focus.c-f-m.com There is alot of information there and great prices on parts. also check out www.massivespeed.com
