Default Australian Ford Laser Engine?

Hi all...

This post is directed towards the fellow aussies in the group.

The engine in my 1986 bubble back ford lazer seized in hot weather last week after a heater hose burst. I now have an oportunity to buy a engine from a wrecked 1985 bubble back ford lazer. My question is, are the engines interchangable between 1985 and 1986 model ford lazers?

Any help you can give will be much apreciated.

Regards Nina in Geelong

There are B6 (1.6), B3 (1.3), and B5 (1.5 which arent common) engines.
Then theres EFI or carbie.
Im assuming neither are TX3 or 4WD as some of these had B6T (1.6 turbo) and I think even BPT (1.8 turbo, although I think these were only in later models) engines.

If the two you have are the same, then yes its an easy swap as Im fairly certain all bubble backs were unleaded, 85 was the change over year.

The BPT came out in the the turbo TX3s from 1990 onwards but do fit the hatch with mods.

Be easiest just to go B6>B6 if it's just a runabout.

Apart from the obvious wiring, tank and pump differences between B6 efi and carb in the body shells, are the engines themselves interchangeable?

Can you just shove the efi gear on a carb motor and run it, or is there crank differences/cam etc?

Where do I find the info on whether it's a B3 or B6? On the compliance plate all it has under 'engine' is a 'B'
