On the back deck, after work one day. Very romantic. So romantic, in fact, she thought I was joking.

Still, she said yes - result!

Our 5th anniversay of togetherness, going out to dinner and walking along Westminster Bridge at about 7pm on a cold November evening in London. Got her to admire the view looking out over the river (which was a crap view, but meh..) and then, in front of all the people walking past going home, dropped down on one knee and pulled the little velvet box out.

It was a bit traditional, I suppose, and she was kind of expecting it, but she still burst into tears and said yes. We had a very nice dinner after that and the rest is history I guess.

I asked my mrs at the top of windy point here in SA. Didnt get down on one knee as traditionally mentioned but we sat and watched the bright stars and she was teary the rest of the night.

Engaged for a year, married the year after. Married now for 9 years. I dont beleive in prolonged engagements.

Only regret was asking when we were both so young. She was 19, I was 21. We both beleive we should have waited another few years before tieing the knot. But we are still together.

But no regrets. Its as nerve racking as hell but worth it IF she accepts.

Was dating the Mrs for 7 years... Staying at Crown Towers, we went out to Donovans for dinner and whilst a dinner i got the crown staff to arrange 3 dozen roses scattered throughout our room, with one single rose in the middle of the bed and the ring through it and got them to dim the lights and put a bottle of cliquet (sp?) on ice...
Only 4 weeks to the wedding now..

whatever you do - make it special or you'll never live it down.

A friend once said "when you're married, you never have any time or money - and when you have kids, it's worse."

I asked my missus in a helicopter over the Twelve Apostles.
Got it on video and all. Only problem was I had to hire the whole helicopter out which cost some $$$ but telling the story to people is worth it.

Ended up getting married on Hayman Island with only 13 guests and it still worked out cheaper than having a big wedding here.

Whatever you do make it special and unique.

I'm not married, but my mate is!
Last classic dirt rally of the year, he was running 2nd in point so he knew he'd be called up on stage, and to make it better he won his class that day. So he gets called up does the whole thanks to the orginisers, my crew etc etc, then asks his girlfriend (who is his co-driver) to come up on stage to accept the trophy. Then when she gets up, he goes down on 1 knee then proposes in front of about 400 people!! The croud goes wild and we don't actually hear her reply, but I assume it was yes because I went to their wedding 3 months ago!

I was planning on taking my missus down to the beach, only 100mt walk from the house.

But I was that bloody nervous, we didn't even make it out of the loungeroom!!!
I rang her father and asked permission beforehand. At first he said no, so I told him to get stuffed, I was doing it anyway.
I used my late-mothers engagement ring which my sister brought up for me the day before.

Cheers

I asked in the bathroom when she held up the little stick with blue on the end of it. I believe the official proposal went something like;
Her "It's Blue"
Me "Oh "

Nah, just kidding. Not married, but I know someone who is.
Mate, I would try and recreate something that you guys did before that was significant, the first restaraunt you went to or where the first time you kissed her was.

Either way, good luck.

I'm single so it's not on the cards, but I've always wondered about that whole asking the permission thing. Is it still to this day something you should definitely do..

And like wtf, if he says no, what are you supposed to do?

Its a noble thing to do but I guess you normally only do it when you pretty much know the reply he will give otherwise, you probably wouldn't have asked...
At the end of the day, whether he says yes or know, he cant stop you from tying the knot.

My brother just got married. He popped the question at a Fasta Pasta. I don't think this is what you had in mind but they're very private people so....You know.

They got married in our backyard a couple of weeks ago, weddings are great. Good luck to you.

Cool

When I decided it was time to propose (after 3 or 4 years of great relationship) she knew me so well that when I mentioned (causally) to walk past a jewelery shop she instantously knew what was going on.

Yep where's the invite??

I've been with my missus for 10 years now. The whole asking her to marry me seems like a non event now as everyone keeps asking when it will happen, and now its almost a joke between everyone.

The time will come.
