I just bought my new LT Focus Zetec manual. I absolute love this car. The problem is when I start the car or drive very slowly and have to stop regularly when the traffic is heavy. It's not smooth. Is that becaus the new clutch? or the way I dirve it? can any one help? thanks.

I had similar problems to this when I first started driving mine brand new. After around 1500-2000kms (run-in), it ran smooth as (Quote Ford Australia )
Welcome to the Club. It is a beautiful car and I'll bet you're gonna enjoy having it. You should look at coming on some cruises. Regan

Its probably the way you drive it. I drive in city traffic everyday and mine's fine.

I feel a strong vibration/shudder through the clutch pedal if I let it out without enough revs. It's fine with normal driving tho.

i have the same feel with mine, you've just gota get used to the clutch and revs balance, once you're used to it the focus is extremely smooth

just reviving this thread... i was looking at a focus zetec today, LS build (which means no stability control), 20,000k's, it's listed price is $22,880, could probably get it to 20 or 21 with my trade in (still trying to decide if this is worth it over new)
I found the clutch dis/engaged very high, although that's something to get used to from car to car, the gear changes were clunky as, i don't know if it's just this car, but my old '91 laser has a very smooth gearstick. Is a clunky gearstick a feature of the latest model focus or is this something to steer clear of? |

Its more notchy than clunky. Also keep in mind that the shifter is shorter in the Focus. I think its a good thing, you can feel the steps when changing gear, so even when shifting fast you know that your in the gear you want.

It shouldn't be clunky, the Focus manual gearbox has a very smooth action normally. It is notchy like blackls says, not 'rubbery' like some other cars. Almost just a flick of the wrist, as they say. I would stay away from anything that felt clunky.

I'd probably say it was notchy now, BlackLS has expanded my vocabulary
What I am thinking is, $20k would probably be too much to pay, other than the body kit it really has nothing on an LT LX, where I could probably get the safety pack in for maybe a few grand more. I hate car shopping! |

Zetec has deadlocks, brushed stainless door highlights, lower suspension, black headlights, bodykit and 17" rims over the LX.
