Hi all...
I just refinanced my loan so i could get a cheaper interest rate. ( aussie car loans ). For an extra $4 a week i can get a 3 year extended warranty on my car. According to the inventory it covers a lot of things - up to $2000 for engines, gearboxes, diffs e.t.c. and up to $500 for things like water pumps, starter motors, steering e.t.c. Has anyone heard of this before or is there some sort of catch??? The car has just done 100000km so i cant lose - or can I? Cheers.

Depends who the warranty is actually underwritten by, theres alot of things that can sway it.

Whoa - more info needed here.
$4 a week for say a 3 or 4 year loan term means $600 to $800 bucks. And you might think this is fine if it is a good value warranty and provides REAL cover. But what sort of warranty is it "Aussie Loans" warranty? Sadly there are few warranties that are any good. Like most things for your Ford if it has the logo on or supported by the brand then the brand will look after you. Because you are looking after the brand by buying Ford right? |

The catch is that you will need to pay the mechanic (as even the dopiest mechs wont work for these insurance companies),and then hope they will pay you back.Look in the fine print,I bet they don't cover gaskets.

If it is the genuine Ford extended waranty, fair enough.
If it's one of the 3rd party insurance warranties, not worth it IMO. For one thing, you may well find that the car has to be serviced by the dealer you bought the car from to remain valid. |
