Default To sell or not to sell?

Im considering selling my Fairmont Ghia. Its a mint condition silver 1990 Automatic Sedan. From what i hear they arent worth , but i beg to differ, after scouring around the used car market. 4-5000 dollars will buy you a moderately good VN/VP Calais. And people reckon anything over 1000 dollars is "good" for an EA Ghia. The fuel prices are killing its ***, it now costs $120 to fill up, something i do once a week. With tax time nearly upon us, im cosidering seeling it and purchasing a later model E series Ghia or Fairlane/LTD on Gas. I have become quite attatched to my car, and i dont want to let it go for anything less than 2500 dollars. Finding a pristine EA for ANY price is quite a find, let alone a fully loaded Ghia. VL Calais in similar condition to mine are going for 6000+ dollars. Any suggestions? To give you an idea i have here a link of a high-res picture of the car.

You won't get what you want for it, why don't you put it onto gas and keep it?

thats one point for keeping it..i wouldnt mind the extra power and features of an EL or AU Fairmont Ghia tough..hmm..nothing a set of black leather seats for the EA and a dustbin lid sized turbo wouldnt fix..but it all comes down to price for actual results..im not sure if i would do that much to the EA..still, its fun driving past dole bludgers in their banged up and rusty EA/B/Ds, its like being in a time paradox having an 18 year old car that looks and drives like new.

Unfortunately, you wont get very much for it at all, unless it was on gas. The problem is they are not worth the fuel they use. you can buy much more powerful cars, which use much less fuel.

You'd be lucky to get $1000 trade in at a dealer. $1500 tops private sale.

The perception of EAs have really dented the resale value of the 1988-1991 Fairmont Ghias compared to the equivilant VN-VPs Calais...which had just as many problems but because of all the Holden P plater "enthusiasts" not having enough money for the newer VT-VZ prices have gone up on the VN-VP Holdens. The VL really shouldn't be compared to the EA because of the cult following the VL has....even though the EA Spack was almost as fast as it.

seeing as you may have seen the thread in the OZE forum,. keep the EA and just buy something else, i have always regreted selling my EA especailly to find out it was written off 1 year later and was in mint condition, 140000 on the clock, and running like a dream. if you can do it keep it coz if you are attached so much as you say i bet you will regret it i do, but realy depends of space and money i guess

If your are attached to the EA, bang LPG on it, claim the rebate, and be done with it.

It comes down to how much you want to spend. An AUII Fairmont Ghia in good condition with less than 140,000km probably won't leave you much change out of $10,000, and then you would still be up for LPG conversion costs.

Why not..fyi i had a bit of a drag with a 5 litre Automatic VL and blasted it into the weeds. Im not sure if the VL was stock but my EA is 100% stock. It kept up till about 40-50km/h, probably cause his pushrod V8 had faster pickup, but after that my superiour power and torque left him behind. 122kw out of a 5 litre bent 8, REAL hardcore holden. My old single point Falcon S put out just that, the ghia has 17 kw and 44 NM more than the VL V8. and a 4 speed electronic auto to boot. EAs were great cars for their day, its hilarious that people have "bad perceptions" about them. I got the Ghia with 197,000 kms. Now after only 8 months it has 218,350 and i have done nothing to it besides regular servicing, and using nothing but 98 octane BP ultimate. It drives smooooooth as, feels like it will go to 400,000 no worries. It certainly went off its digital speedo to 199+ km/h when i gave it a bit of gas on a long straight, smooth stretch of "private" road.

oh and just out of question..would anyone here be genuinely interested in my EA? Find me another one like it and you are a better man than i..Enthusiast to fellow enthusiast..
