IF you hate it dont stay, once you have your trade you can go back to it whenever you want.

Try something else.

[dave] finish your time

i am a boilermaker welder as well and it is a great trade to fall on if your other interests don't work out

i did the same as what you are thinking and had to go back to trade school to get my qualification

finish your time then move on if you don't really like it

best advice i can give you

As a boilermaker and pressure welder myself, I'd say stick it out, get your trade certificate and take it from there, that way you've got a trade behind you in you cant get work elsewhere. If you wish to continue the trade or take a few years out to do something different you can choice after finishing your time.

There's plenty of opportunities for a young fella like yourself, coming out of an apprenticeship, work in Vic, particularly in the power generation area, which is what I specialize in, or in WA in the mines/gas fields.

When you get your ticket and move to a different type of job that doesn't really matter. It will be more attractive to future employers that you have finished a trade.

Can you apply for early release. I'm getting early release from my lineworkers apprenticship. If you can, you can get 6 months off.

i went through the same shyte as what you are

keep your head up and finish your time if you need to (hope you never need to ) but it is always good to do a few courses on the side

there are a few people on her (aff ) that can vouch for the welding i do and being the way i was tought as an apprentice most of it was self tought

as i said above keep your head up and finnish your time

Should have filed it off lightly before handing the test piece in, every welder knows this trick.

Sounds like you may hate it due to you workplace, not the nature of the Job.

sadly, it's happening allot now, poor training and apprentices not being taught as they should and or apprentices not wanting to work and just coasting thou.

Always have a 2nd cut file on hand for things like that, always pays to run it around the toes of the weld lightly too, especially using electrodes or TIG welding. Just neatens up the appearance.

Being in South Australia - have you not heard about the ship building and mining industries that are just exploding here (pardon the pun)? They are screaming for welders and any tradesperson they can get.

Finish your trade and then start applying elsewhere, try another workplace and have some fun along the way. Then if you find that it is the trade that you don't like look at the army, because that will be a longer term commitment (longer than your apprenticeship).

South Australia is a great place to be for a young fella like you.

As others have said finish it and then find something else, you may come back to it later in life. I started my apprenticeship and then left it. I wish i had of kept on going :

Finish what you start. Personally I reckon if you're half way through or more you might aswell continue.

Mate I hated every minute of finishing my diploma and never intended on getting into that field of work after I finished but funny enough that's what I'm doing as a job currently even though I said I was done with it :

And as others have said it was more so the environment I was being taught in that put me off wanting to finish. Just don't make the decision too lightly and think it through ;)
