Default Pinging info found in a USA forum

Guys - Curly in particular. Too late now but did Ford Australia look into the pinging issue with a scope down the sparkplug hole??

I read the other day in a US forum that there was a recall on some Focus with butterfly mount screws coming loose in the inlet manifold. It or they then get sucked into the engine and before passing out the exhaust dimple and score the internals.

The comon complaint was pinging presumably due to hot spots on dimples and scores in the combustion zone...

Anyone else heard of this here???

I have no idea what they did. The car spent the whole day at the dealership so the ford engineers could look at it (as they were going to be there that day). That's interesting what you found out though. It might help others that are still putting up with it. Our new Mazda3 still hasn't pinged. (on 91RON fuel).

Small problem is the Focus in the USA has the 2.3 engine, so it's not the same engine.

I've got a 2007 Ford Focus LT Zetec and I haven't noticed it ping ever since I got it and I use 91 ron fuel most of the time.

Its now got 11,000kms..

I noticed the pinging issue on my previous 2006 Ford Focus LS LX..

my 2005 LS focus pings on 91 ron. but only under load (heavy acceleration) to get up to speed on the highway. so atm i'm payin 169.9c/L for 95 ron out of my savings:(

I think so. We love our Mazda3. After owning both cars I can honestly say the Mazda is a better car.

Ok with higher fuel prices I've adjusted my sensor location and test driving then readjusting and no-more-pings!™

Having said that Ford could have tuned the car a bit better.

Just got an '08 Zetec sedan, and I run on E-10, it doesn't ping. So far I've run through 1 3/4 tanks of fuel (just over 1,000 kms) and I'm very happy with it. I'm averaging 7 l/100km on it, so quite pleased with that too.

With regards to the Mazda, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I prefer the look of the Focus hatch over the Mazda, but to each his own.

I believe the pinging was predominantly sorted out by the time the LT came out. I'm yet to hear of many LT owners who's cars ping, whereas most of the reports of pinging came from the LS owners. I've got a December 07 LT and it hasn't pinged once. *touch wood*!!!!

PS, welcome to the forums Randy_G. Hope you enjoy your stay
