Default wrecking a AU Ghia

bought myself a AU1 ghia. mechanically and interior wise its in fair sorta nik. was going to fix it up and sell it but the price of falcons seem to be dropping everyday. i think its worth $4-7k once rego'd and roadworthy. but is going to need probably another 2k spent on it.

question is should i part it out. the biggest problem i have is that living in townsville means selling bits of it are going to be harder to shift. most of u guys in sth states wont want to buy parts because of freight. small stuff is easy.

another question. what sorta money could i expect to make from parting a AU ghia? its a 6cyl. irs is bent, someone drove it sideways into a gutter at speed. every thing else works. interior is gray and drives seat and handles are worn

You'll make more wrecking it, than fixing it and selling it complete & reg'd/rwc'd for 4-7k.

I dunno.....I managed to sell sweet fa here when I tried to part out my rear ended AU2 XR6.....lots of promises but not much cash......probably $500 in bits n pieces .......result is I've bought a front-ended ute in order to use the parts myself

But not saying repair and resale will be easy, either....it just irks me that the wreckers charge a brazillion dollars for stuff that its hard to sell for fifty bucks

Well, when you factor in what the car cost him, 2k in repairs, and then say 1k for RWC and reg, that leave the car owing 3k, plus whatever he bought the wreck for. Then try selling a written off car for 7k, and it becomes clear there is not much money to be had.

Wrecking it would be more profitable in this instance.

how many km's are on it? Low km's then its worth more to sell whole, and how bad is the IRS? I would assume the centre would still be alright.

I personally could use a few parts off one, but as you said by the time you send them down to vic, its gonna cost.

hey mick, want some bits....lol

done 265k have driven the thing around the yard at home 50 times and it drives real nice. apart from the clunks from all the bushes. irs is bent in the lower control arm mount. its not real bad with a oxy and hammer it would be a piece of to fix. the biggest problem i have is i dont have a hoist which makes working on the irs a great deal of fun....not.

depending on what you want will depend on the freight cost's. sending the motor and box to vic is a waist cause of the weight but smaller bits wont cost too much

Well most parts i want are interior, in mine its that ghia grey, i need rear parcel shelf, drivers door speaker grill, water reservoir bottle, and maybe some more little parts out of interior to replace broken things in mine.

But i'm more interested in the IRS parts, diff centre and i need a drivers side stub axle, and a drivers side cv shaft, which will all be expensive to send.

well im going to see if i can sell it as a whole and get at least my money back. there would be someone out there who wants it.

i am reluctant to strip it now as most of the bits you guys want are small interior bits. if someone comes up with the cash for the motor and box then i would look at it. there is no point in having a 90% complete car that you cant sell.

motor is a VCT engine as you would expect from a ghia. ford told me they have all service records up to 2004 and the last oil change sticker in the windscreen is about the same as the k's its done so whoever owned it looked after it.

i might start a for sale thread for the whole car and see what happens. if there are a few of you guys in brissy that are interested it only cost $380 to get a car shipped to brissy from tville so it might almost be worth while.

thanks for your interest guys. will see how it all goes.

cheers mick
