hey guys i want to take out my struts and springs from my old car and never done it before is it a big job and i think i know how to do the front but no idea about the back ones anyone that could help me would be greatly appreciated need some thought and opinions

The back is easy, undo the shocks at the bottom and the top (fold rear seat down remove plastic covers either side), jack the car up under the centre of the diff, support the chassis on stands, drop the diff to the ground and watch everything fall out

but make sure u bolt everything back up :P even though ya car will look ridiculously low with no suspension in it, its a tad unsafe :P

ok ive done the rear but how do i do the front the nuts are so damn big that not even my shifter gets around it and has anyone else done this before did they have the sam troubles

think u need a 24 or 25 mm socket around there abouts dont bother with a shifter

Don't undo the centre one at the top of the strut tower YET ;) ;)
IIRC all u need to undo are the three nuts around the centre one (for the top part of the spring/strut combo). I don't exactly remember the bottom part unfortunately. You'll need a mate to stomp on the disc rotor for ya in order to get the combo out. -Dave- |

ok well i dont have a mate or anyone else here at the moment so is there another technique that someone else has used when there by themselves to get the front strut combo out and new ones in

remove the top a-arm (4 nuts in the engine bay) use a bar to put load on the bar running from the bottom suspension towards the front of that car, should you give you enough clearance to remove them.
If yo udo the above and remove the front guards then it gets really easy (a bit extreeme, but sometimes extreme is quicker and less hassle)

a arm is that the one that is like drooping down from the top and like surrounds the strut

Yes thats the one, i call them A's cause the sort like an A, but are called top suspension arm I think in the book.

or you can also get some spring presses to squash the springs in
but that is how my dad told me to do them but i have never done them before |
