Default Not a day gone by without...

...some sex offender articles in the newspapers, it makes me sick. Personally I think Australia needs much tougher laws regarding sex offenders.

What say you?

Yes... as a school teacher this is a soft spot for me.

So many other countries have a no BS approach to punishment. Why can't we?

There should be MINIMUM punishments, not maximum, none of this crap about if you are a good little boy in jail and show remorse a 25 year sentence becomes 10 with parole...

But then as a school teacher you are also aware of the number of false accusations and innuendo that abounds in our paranoid society.

Too many rotten kids and young adults know that all they have to do is make a claim of "sexual whatever" and the person they don't like has no defense at all.

Now do you ever talk with you students by themselves without a witness or maybe help pick up a kid who has fallen over and is crying?

Of course you don't.

Yes sentences should be enforced but also the if some one lies for revenge or spite then maybe they should get the sentence that the victim would have.

Flappist, you assume a lot about my teaching practices.

I don't give a toss about being PC. Nor am I a member of the union.

I WILL talk to kids alone if need be, I WILL and have on more occasions than I can care to remember physically held, picked up, held down, patted on back students and all the rest of the stuff we are taught NOT to do at Uni.

When you got a group of boys goin for it in the playground, I don't sit back thinking what I should and shouldn't be correctly doing. I get in there, and break it up. Done it before and will do it again in a second.

I don't give a TOSS about what I'm 'meant' to do and do what I think is right in any given situation.

Been doing it for several years and know that I have the FULL SUPPORT of the school I work at. I don't work in the public system.. that is a very big difference in my opinion.

It's a real shame to... This sort of rubbish is what's making male teachers extinct...... And for some weaker in mind than me, I don't blame them for leaving the profession.

Well that is a good thing to hear. I support your position absolutely. My GF is a teacher and I get to hear the horror stories on a regular basis.
