i've found an SR20DET for sale but i was hoping to try and stick with originalish parts and not go ricey.. but then again its probably cheaper to go for the SR20DET for a good power/money ratio instead of rebuilding a 1.8

do you mean a BDA???? good luck finding one. if you do, then expect to pay BIG bucks to get it and even more to modify it. they also had a bit of a reliability issue...

i think you would be looking at close to 10k for a cossie, but you would need to check that. have a think about the Zetec. twin cam, capable of an easy 200 hp (same as a stock cossie turbo) and apparantly still very driveable. your best bet would be to contact one of the experts in the field. I believe Escort Road and Race are good, and I use Racetune who have converted both Cossies and Zetecs.

there are conversion kits that will allow you to install a zetec, available from the UK.

No, you need to use the ones out of the mondeo.....Can't remember the reason why, but it has something to do with the ECU. Early engines you can use aftermarket ones, whereas the later engines it gets a bit more complicated......That why I like the pinto....KISS principal. :
