well we just fitted a mk2 clutch cable into the mk1 project of mine. although the car doesnt run yet it seems as though the clutch will be really tight. and the clutch pedal probably sits a good 35mm higher than the other pedals?
so how tight is the clutch in ur escorts?

Gday Kermit,
I have a Mk2 and my clutch disengages very soon after i push on the pedal and remains like that all the way to the floor. There is also very little pedal travel from engaged to disengaged, which can make it a little difficult to drive. As far as I know it is stock. I have wondered myself whether this is the norm for mk2s so i welcome anybody elses input. |

If the pedal sits higher, its should be looser. The standard clutch on a Mk 2 should be pretty soft and you should be able to adjust it quite a bit. I drove my old RS2000 for almost 5 years on a worn clutch just by re-adjusting the cable.
Remove the clutch cable and check to see whether it slides cleanly in the sleeve. Its common for them to get guncked up with crud. Personally, if I'm replacing the clutch, I'd replace the cable with a new one as well. It could also be the seized thrust bearing which is common if you have the car laid-up for any amount of time. Squirt some WD40 in thru the clutch-cable hole in the bell-housing, then pump the clutch a few times. If its the thrust bearing, this should free it up a bit. Help this helps. |
