Since getting the car, it hasnt had a single problem. So it came as a shock, that on Friday morning, the car had trouble changing gears ( EL, V8 Auto).
It's reving up to around 3 grand before shifting gears, and is staying in gears way to long. (FEELS LIKE IT HAS 4.11 DIFF GEARS LOL) Not having a dipstick for the gearbox (bring back the EF!!!), we couldnt check the fluid level, so Leah whipped it off to a local Transmission place. They said the gearbox was fine, but the oil was slightly low. They said that it appeared that the problem was something else, and not the transmission. They topped up the fluid, and said if the problem continues , its the TPS, and they cant fix that. Now, it lasted about half a day, and the problem came back. Am I right in thinking the TPS is the Throttle Position sensor ? I really want to hear other peoples opinion's on this. And if anyone has an Idea for me.!!! It needs to be fixed pretty quick, as Leah drives it to work everyday , and its chewing thru the fuel HEEH. Thanks heaps guys, Stevo

Jesus, it hasn't been a good month for V8 E-Series transmissions......
TPS is the Throttle Position Sensor. If you get a multimeter and probe the black and green wires, it should read under 1v at idle, and 4-5v at WOT (wide-open throttle). It could also be the neutral safety switch. Does it respond when you hold it in gear manually? So if you drop it into say 2nd, will it go 1-2 and sit in 2nd, or does it still act like it was in D ?? Did the trans place do an ECU test? If not, I'd take it somewhere who can do one and get their opinion.

Wow... 80 views and only 1 reply. And to think i felt stupid for not knowing wtf the problem was or wtf a TPS was.
Thanks Aaron for the suggestions! I'll be heading off to another Auto place tomorrow. cheers! |

Sounds like it may be in limp home mode, which can be caused by a number of things including transmission slipage or a number of sensor errors. I dont think it sounds like the TPS but I would still test it like Aaron said. You really need to run the EEC and trans codes, that should diagnose the problem for you, if you don't know the proceedure then take it to your local ford or decent mechanic and ask them to run the codes.

Ash had a similiar problem which turned out to be the inhibiter switch, that would be a last resort though, and Ash would know more about it than me.
Hope ya's get it fixed soon. |

Its either the TPS or the Inhibitor switch. The two are on each end of the wiring circuit.
