Just thought id write up about what im doing at the moment (is a bit exciting). Well heres the story (sorry if its a bit long):
Looking online at jobs and came across a plant mechanic apprenticeship going at mines near muswellbrook (huntervalley). I put in a resume etc as you do. Well a few days later got a phone call saying can you be at Muswellbrook TAFE on the next day. Got there and had talks about what was going on and that we have to do a 2 week training course on Auto-Fabrication at TAFE. The course is valued at around $2000 a head and we are getting it for free so thats a bonus. Anyway the company/program this is for has a heap of mines etc working with it and after the course they pretty much just choose who they want out of the course. Started the course yesterday so now im two days down and have another 8 to go. 5 days in auto mechanical and 5 with boilermaking. May seem small and nothing to some but I'm excited and hoping to hopefully get a half decent apprenticeship out of this. To get into the mines would be like a dream to me. Well thanks for letting me spill my crap lol

Well one week is down. Has been heaps easy so far and majority of the class have no idea what they are doing (kind of funny but sad at the same time). Me, a mate and probly 2 maybe 3 other people would be the only ones who have half a clue what we are doing. Chances are good so.. Back down the auto section tomorrow.

yer it does. Teachers in the auto area already know me and my mate from previous courses and get along good with us. Head teacher told me he would put in a good word with the people running the course.. i was like "YEEEEAAAAHHHHHHH"
In the few days we had up at metal and fab so far we are building our own jobs. We had to do a drawing of what we were building to see how good we were. I was the only one in the entire class to do a proper tech drawing and teacher liked it that much when the head teacher came in he made him come over for a look (got to be a bonus). All the other people whinged about making stuff in the heat so much one fella even left the course. I'm striving ahead in it and there would probably only be 3 of us with a half decent job so far. All others are rushed and dodgy looing. They hide in the grinding bays and talk before they get caught. Me and my mate are taking it serious and doing our work and so far the teacher really seems to appreciate it. So far i dont even know what the other people are doing in the course..they have no enthusiasm and always whinge. To me this is a big step into getting a career. To them its like who cares i can go back to school.

good to see you are having a good go at it mate. this could be the most important 2 weeks of your career, in as much as being the ticket to having a career or not.
stick with it and give everything you have. even if you just learn to work on holden motors , then you will never be out of a job , cause we all know how often they need woking on. lol.
