Swap Meets have definetely changed since ebay. At Bendigo we were seeing a huge downturn in attendance figures since e-Bay became 'the in thing'. Things are starting to level out a bit now, and the main thing that upsets our swap now is poor weather!

As a buyer I'm sick of hearing 'I'll get a better price on e-Bay' from sellers.... If you think that then why would you bring the bloody item to the swap!! There is minimal room for haggling anymore and prices skyrocketed at swaps in 2007 but last year I noticed a bit of a downturn.

I'm not sure if e-Bay is to thank for a lot more 'shed' finds as people are seeing items similiar to theirs go up on e-Bay and drag it out to the swap after years of sitting in the shed!

I still much prefer wandering around a swap meet at 5:30 in the morning that e-Bay, gives you a chance to get some good rust therapy!!!

Swap meets are still great for a sunday walk but ebay opens up the whole country or the world if you dont fall over with the cost of transport.

Ebay's good, but nothin' like wandering around freezing your butt off in the dark searching for a bargain! I do hate when you go to a swap with a fist full of cash and come home with sweet F.A. Now-a- days quality is down and prices are up,though.

Ebay is NO LONGER a great place to get a bargain on many goods.

I started on Sold back in 2001 and went to Ebay in 2002. Back then, I would get footy cards for CHEAP. Gary Ablett cards I got for $5 now sell for 30-45.

It has become too much of an online store, rather than an auction site where people want to offload their stuff.

Where every one comes along with assorted junk to one place, then try and sell their junk.

Generally done at a major carpark or oval, sort of like a mass gathering of garrage/lawn sales.

How times have changed.I love swap meets and go to as many as i can if ive got time.Years ago you used to be able to score a few bargains, but not now, even at garage sales now all you hear is youll get more for that on Ebay, and thats from elderly people.

Yeah I hate when you go to swap meets and when you ask for a price the standard reply is "I saw one go for that much on eBay." Still they are great fun and it's a great place to go for a walk around.

I love swap meets and go to as many as I can. Its always good for bargains, Ebay is great if you want something in particular ASAP, but a good swap meet will always reveal things you never knew you needed until you come across it. :
Great way to spend a sunday morning, and a good excuse to get up early for a B&E roll. Some things do seem to be alot more expensive, but there are still people selling stuff at reasonable prices and willing to come down.

Default Swap meet dates...

I have been doing the swap meet routine around Victoria for a few years and while ebay has made inroads into where people put up stuff for sale there is always the seller that can't be bothered going through with ebay. Sometimes you find good items and sometimes nothing but you will always meet other enthusiasts and have a good drive to the meet if it is in a country town. As other members say get there EARLY and it will be you walking out the gate with the goodies.

Yes, I have heard the Beenleigh swap is good. Many good swap meets in the Sunshine state from what friends tell me.

Would be handy if we had a Swap Meet thread on AFF announcing when and where they are been held.
