The US Navy today announced that it has released a senior Al Qaeda terrorist after questioning him extensively for 27 days while being held prisoner aboard a US aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea.
In a humanitarian gesture, the terrorist was given $50 US and a white 1962 Ford Fairlane automobile upon being released from custody. The attached photo shows the terrorist on his way home just after being released by the Navy. |

That's a Falcon going over the edge!
Apparently the US Navy would carry a car on their larger vessels so that they could do some running about when in port, but the policy changed and the cars had to be removed. Regulary on Aircraft Carriers, the steam catapults that assist aircraft "departing" the carrier are replaced or refurbished. This was seen as a fitting way to not only test the catapult but also dispose of the old Falcon that was no longer required. The Royal Navy has done this on a few occasions too. When the Old HMS Ark Royal was decommissioned in the late '70's-early '80's, they catapulted the Ship's Piano off the flight deck to the sounds of the ships crew singing Rod Stewart's "We Are Sailing". |
