I have a modified escort with an 8 point cage and the engineers report says it has no back seat fitted but when i bought the car it had one will this be a sticky point with the police if they say i was carrying passengers or should i just remove it too avoid the implacations of having a fully functional(except for the cage intruding) back seat??? any advice appreciated. i have attached a photo of said interior. Any opinions from actual boys in blue welcome.

AFAIK you can only have a cage in a roadcar if there are no back seats.... not 100% on that though.
imagine having a colision and someones head coming into contact with it?? you might be best off just removing the seat.. just put it back in for shows or whatever:P |

Your car has obviously been engineered and registered as a two seater. VicRoads and the engineers certificate will confirm this. If you get pulled over with rear passengers.. well.. bye bye car, license, earnings for the next 5 years, and maybe even hello to Big Bubba.. who'll show you what life is like in a real cage.

i think MADNC 8 is correct. At least in WA, if there is a back seat fitted, then those passengers need to have access to and from the doors without obstruction. My understanding is that if there is no back seat, then the cage would be okay. Check with your states licencing people. I wouldn advise having anyone in the back of the car though until you get some sort of clarification.

checked the vic roads web site found out if cage is fitted and has a engineers report all stated in the report must be complied with so therefore as stated by the report my car is now a 2 seater only not worth the hassle of a back seat. thanks for the help

yeap also means you can be a tight **** and not have to taxi people around. I dont think thats such a bad thing.

I know of someone with a rollcage, and backseats but that is a sedan, so I dont know if that would make a diff.

Definitely remove that back seat.... imagine hitting your head on that in an accident!!!
