I have been sourcing parts for my MK2 escort 2 Litre project for about a year now and I have found the engines called a few different names so here is I know are stupid qustions but I need help...
Is the 2L in the MK2 escort a PINTO? Is there such a thing as a long and short version of this engine? What is the differnce between the everyday 2L and the RS2000 engine? And I also have some gearbox questions... Does the 5 speed cortina box just bolt straight in? If not is there a 5 speed out there that does? I look forward to your response... Thanks heaps.... |

2L escort motor is also referred to as a Pinto.
Aussie 2L RS2000 motor and the everyday 2L motor are the same; German RS2000 engines had some differences (carb/exhaust, etc). AFAIK cortina's had the 4sp; The sierra 5sp would go close to bolting straight in. |

If i was to fit a five speed would the Sierra be the easiest and cheapest, I have heard that the earlier sierra 5 speed (type 9 i think) will bolt straight up, Is this the case or is there any modification to the gearbox mount or gear lever slot in the tunnel? I have heard the Celica ones are good but can be expensive to make fit? |

The Sierra 5 speed will bolt straight up but the gear lever is about 2 inches further back than the 4 speed. You will need to cut a new hole in the trans tunnel. |

There are several 2ltr motors. The best is the 105 block which has more webbing around the crankcase area. It also has better quality crank & rods. Definitely the best choice if you're going to modify the engine. You can pick these engines up pretty cheap, around $1500 complete with EFI.

I thought it was a 205 block. 200 blocks are better but $$ a rare...
Standard block are fine to a certain degree unless boosting and racing.... |

The easiest way to put the five speed in is to remove the gearbox mounts from the body. Using the standard gearbox mount, cross drill it, ie widen the holes allowing sideways movement, bolt the body gearbox mounts to the gearbox mount, adjust em, tech screw em on the tunnel and then weld them. Once finished machine four times spacers to allow for the different ride height and hey presto she's in. Simple to just reposition the selector hole. I can take some pictures of mine if that helps. This method gets around lowering blocks and is a damn lot tidier.
