Good evening
As of 00:30 tonight the forum database will be taken off line for reindexing purposes. This is a lengthy task that will probably take 4 hours to run. Regards Russ

Good luck for a smooth run. I notice you still run an older version of the vBulletin software, is this due to that it is more stable or have some smart bods on here customised it for Ford Forums themselves and thus updated the code themselves a long way from the standard package?

There also seems to be something wrong with searching. I know certain key words for threads but the last couple of days it will only display a handful of results.

Yes, I noticed last night the Search function only brought up items from yesterday, or very old ones, but nothing in between.
And I also noticed AFF very slow or stopped in the last few nights, I knew it wasn't my computer as the other forum I'm in worked perfectly still. Ahhh, 4Vman's fault. lol. |

Yep..dont blame it on the sunshine or the boogie...this has 4vman written all over it!
I am sure it is just a few teething problems. With a big crash like it had..these things take time to sort out. Guaranteed Russ is onto it!

He has not yet been able to track it down (as of this morning that is) but I'm quite sure he will as soon as he can. It happens at dead on 2130hrs so until the problem is found and a fix is made I would schedule in something else at this time.

Not sure if this has anything to do with your shutdown, but since then at the top of the page it says "Private Messages: 65535 Unread, Total 59"

It's been stuffing up quite frequently lately; it's really irritating... I thought it was a problem at my end, but apparently not.

He spent 50 hours (and that is no exaggeration) testing, tabling etc and frankly he is a bit over it tonight and I have made him have a rest. This is an enormous task for one person and while he has had a few lending a hand (through MSN conversations etc and he is very grateful for that support) it is still is a mammoth job. A bit of patience people and remember when you see the imput of Russ (russellw), this is a living person not a robot. The AFF is his life and I suppose now mine. Occasionally I step in to give him a bit of sanity - he needs it. We are grateful we are able to access the site at most times, however the evenings are an issue and there is no clear reason why yet. He will get to the bottom of it. Regards Gaela

Thanks for the update Gaela.
I am sure Russ is working his hardest to get this fixed and it must be frustrating! Make sure you get some rest too

Gaela and Russell
Maintaining a forum like this is a thankless task - often a PITA, and often all one gets in return is complaints when something isn't to ones satisfaction. Thanks people. And no... I don't want extra PM message space... |
