Logically if Ford mount a teeny weeny 4 banger in a cavernous Falcon engine bay there should be enough room for the front half of an AWD system without jacking the car up.
Then if we remove the section of the car that has the rear doors and seats, we have a small 2 door, 2 seat AWD sports car that will rival the likes of the Evo and WRX. Not what Ford had in mind I'm sure but I reckon that would have worldwide market appeal, especially in Britain. I reckon its a pretty nifty idea, and yes this is not the right economic climate to release blah blah blah I don't care. I reckon its a good idea. Input?

So a RWD roadster then? May as well start with a clean sheet design, the Orion platform has too much weight in it for a car of that size and is not sport oriented enough.

Not really my cup of tea, but could be a big hit with the excessive hair product brigade.

Yeah spend $500 millions developing a small coupe that is 6 inches wider than any other small coupe. Take out all of the structural members and integrity built into the back end of the Falcon as you mention, do all of the crash tests, retool the plants, have the few engineers you have spend all of their time on this, and sell about 10...... It won't work..... Maybe sell the RS Focus instead ? |

It could work if it was a global project and FoA were given the funds to develop it a-la T6. But only if it was a global vehicle.

considering one of the excuses FoA used for not bringing it in was they wanted to do a hot focus when they start building them here is now no longer applicable. i'd be unbelievably amazed if they do actually bring it here

Why develop another car on a similar par to a product that already exists?

A 4 cylinder will only really leave more space at the front of the engine, only a small bit at the sides, so it won't leave room for an AWD setup that would need space at the bottom rear of the engine bay.

So just put an AWD system in, take off the rear doors, shorten the wheelbase, lower the roofline, take off the Ford badges, put on Mitsubishi Lancer badges, modify the shape of the headlights, tail lights, door skins etc.... oh wait... just buy a Lancer... LOL
