my mate had a lot of trouble with never ending wheel balances, after rebuilding his front end, ball joints ,steering rack etc , it turned out the after market wheels he put on it where changing shape and going out of wack after hitting pot holes, he put factory wheels back on it and no more problems, not saying thats is your problem , but something to think about if the front end checks ok.

sounds like it could be a good car with these minor issues fixed, pinging is almost certainly fuel or timing issue or both, i dont buy petrol from woolies servos anymore with my V8's as pinging occured after tank fills but worked out later my engine did not like standard unleaded, it needed premium and pinging issue dissapeared.so my XY will only have premium in it when finished and might even go back to woolies as they are 400 yards from home,
