Default Out of the Loop :D , Whats it Worth ..

Gday Guys and Girls ..

After careful debate with mum and dad , i've Convinced mum to sell her Car .. just wanting to know a Rough Price and yeah .. See what i should eBay/Trading Post it for ..

2000 AU Fairmont Sedan - Champagne Color
  • Body in Great condition , only a Few Minor bumps and bruises .. Nothing too Dramatic for its Age ..
  • Interior is in Immaculate Condition , no Tears , Rips or Stains , Has Lambskin Seat Covers , Climate Control , Woodgrain , All the Fairmont things , Only thing it doesnt have , is the 6 Stacker .. It had a heart attack , but i promptly replaced it with my one out of a 2001 AU SR , So its just a Normal Ford Cd Player..
  • Has had regular Servicing , Tyres are 90% all around , Brakes Pads might need Changing , Rotors Seem Fine , Motor has no Damage , nor does it Go through Oil.
  • Private Price Guide $4,600 - $6,000 , Trade In Price Guide $2,500 - $3,900 , Is Asking $5500 a Bit Much ..

Anyway Guys , Look forward to your feedback ,

Thanks
Daniel

Honestly it will break your heart - if you can pull $4k you will be doing very good. And if it's a V8 you won't even get that much. Have a look on Carsales and see what the competiton is.

I've been quoted on getting $6k trade in for my 2000 AU2 Fairmont Ghia 6 cyl, with 135k on the clock, full history, Tickford rims and in general all round good condition... except for a broken 6 stacker too !

If it was on gas then maybe a monkey ($500) or so more, and if I sold it privately then I'd probably get around $7.5k for it.

I know this isnt an even comparison, but here we go. I just sold mine, series one with 285k's on it.
Only things wrong were : Headlining, tyres.
Good brand suspension, series 2 brake conversion, car looked mint, 17's, tint, big stereo, lowered, interior was mint, etc etc.
I had it for sale for like 4 months at 4-5000. I ended up selling it with personalised plates, rego and everything for $3800.
Just something to help you put things into perspective.

I'd personally put it around the 4-4.5k mark. High kms, coupled with an undesirable colour will keep the value down.

from what i can gather, an AU swb I6 will be worth between $3k-$6k no matter what, unless it's on the absolute extreme ends of mintness or wreckedness.

Just yesterday I purchased a 98' AU Ghia. Black Leather Interior, rear spoiler, 6 cd stacker, optioned v8 and normal ghia stuff. Burgandy in colour. All receipt for serving. Owned by a older fella who cant drive anymore. 99,000kms rego till April 2010 and I paid $7600. Reading your guys comments im starting to think I paid a tad too much but everyone else on carsales are asking around 9-10k for one with 150,000kms and not as good condition.

What do you think?

nah, the V8's command a bit of a premium. 99ks and $7600 would to me be not a great price but not a bad price either, probably 'fair'.

As with all cars it is worth what you are willing to pay - I recently picked up a Galaxy Blue '99 update AU Fairmont Ghia VCT I6, 128ks & full service history - factory optioned with;
Full black leather,
Tickford 17"s & Sports Suspension,
Full Tickford body kit,
MoMo stering wheel & gear shift

It is an unmolested 2 owner car, only non factory items were dealer fit floormats and window tint. I paid $8.5k on the road with 6mths rego and believe it is worth every cent.
The other alternative was be to pay 4 - 5k for a low k Forte, then spend over 4k putting wheels, sports suspension, body kit, cam, flashtune, etc. etc. to get even close to the performance, handling and exterior styling - so simply based on bang for buck I beleve it is well and truly in the ball park - and I get to ride in cosseted comfort that is the hallmark of the Ghia....

Cheers
