Well there is light at the end of the tunnel with the T5 rebuild.
For those who don't know I picked up a T5 with "noise in second" with a few other conversion bits and pieces. Pulled the box apart, needs new second, input shaft and input shaft retainer. Finally seem to have found some semi-decent prices on them. Second hand input shaft $250 from Mal Wood. I grabbed a 'dud' box from FTG auto salvage for $75 (all I can find wrong with it is the bearing on first is real tight), so I have second out of that. Big suprise on the input shaft retainer....Ford spares are actually the cheapest place to get it! ECU and loom for the T5 are coming soon. I need a few little odds and ends, as soon as I've got the spare money I'll grab them from Ford. I think I've tracked down the right bearing/synchro set from the US of A. I'll make a phone call later on in the week to confirm and organise shipping. After that I just need to whack the box back together, machine the flywheel, organise a clutch (which I think I've done) and she's ready to go. However, there's a catch. Engine is coming out. Not saying why (some people know), but the BTR is staying until the engine comes out, the T5 will be going in with the engine. ETA; Before the next Heathcote meet. |

Took second out of the parts box today, it looks pretty good. Still can't figure out what was wrong with the box besides first gear bearing.

ATMO?
And EASPRINT seems to go alright with a T5 behind his :P Though if I ever did I'd rebuild it with brand new bits. And put a reverse brake in, the dog teeth on both my reverses are chewed out big time. |
