hey all,
Not sure how to describe this, but my xr8 has developed an interesting rattle. Its only when ya first hit the key, soon as she starts i think its the starter motor, kinda makes a noise like someone spinning a dry bearing or something. I had one guy suggest it could be the bushes are dry. Is it worth pulling this starter apart or just buying a new one ($140). Keeping in mind the car has done 203,000km now

sounds like the problem i had with my au3 xr8, its the starter motor not disengaging when the engine starts quick enough because the mechanism is sticking. i think its caused by dust from clutch wear. i unbolted the starter and basically shock the dust out of the mechanism. has worked for a couple of months but does it somethine now. not sure whether its meant to be lubricated with a dry lube or just be dry. hope this helps.
