Starting issue

Focus LR every now and again when you go to start it, it just sits there winding over but wont start then you try to start it again it starts? whats this caused by?

It could be that fuel pump has not go the fuel to pressure, the second time the pressure is Ok and the engine starts. Try turn the ignition on and wait for the dash to do it's thing, try to start and it should be fine.

The problem these days is that starting a FI engine is quite different to a carby'd car, the dealers don't tell people either about what to do.

That makes sense to me.

Think of starting as two actions.
One, turn the key to the "on" position then wait about 3 seconds.
Then turn the key just a bit more to "ignition"

Yer dusty i'd say your right, because the car mainly is in the shed as we drive our ford telstar so maybe the fuel needs to build pressure and be sent to the engine, i never let the fuel go past the last quater so it doesnt suck the rubbish in the **** of the tank, but when i start it now ill turn key to second accessories and let the fuel pump, pump the fuel cheers.
