Default DVD Screen on ED Fairmont?????

Hi guyz,

Need some input.

Have any of you ever fitted a motorised DVD screen in an ED?

About 3 months ago I was looking at a DVD player for my ED. I had to settle for a single DIN DVD player with an inbuilt 3" screen. coz where the head unit goes in the dash, it sits too far in, hence the screen cannot be tilted. I thought I'd be happy. But noooooo, I want a larger screen.

I figured I've got two options. Either modify the dash to allow for two units to fit. (the existing player and a motorised screen at a lower point so it can be tilted) or a fixed screen.

Anyone got any ideas how to do this?

Has anyone done this before?

Any input would be appreciated.

Mate, go fixed screen. Personally i realy dislike fold out DVD screens as they loook tacky IMHO. When it comes to the interior, I much prefer everything to look factory, as in make it look like that's how the car came out. With this option though, you would need to mount te actual player somewhere else as the fixed screen would prolly take up the whole stereo facia space (maybe glove box or similar). I don't think mounting it in a lower position would work either as the CD/DVD would hit the gear selector when it's ejected.

Having said that, if your content with a fold out screen, perhaps you can mount the actual unit further foward in the dash, enough to let the screen tilt back enough (i assume this is your problem???). You can then modify the stereo facia to make it look like the unit is sitting flush (hope i'm explaining myself properly :P)

Or perhaps you could go sony scorcher style and mount a 5inch screen in the panel where the trip computer lies, and relocate the trip computer somwhere else, such as the sunglasses holder thing or even in the stereo facia under the current player.

Sorry i got no more idea's, they would be the ones i'd be considering...

I fitted a pioneer fold out screen in my EL. I had to modify the brackets for it to sit about 1/2 centimetre out. When it opened, it covered the a/c vents (which is why i sold it) and the back was resting on the dash facia which was fine as it was touch screen and it made it more stable.

Alternatively
You could buy one of those double din flip down screen/player units. They are fairly pricey though.
