Default Pop! pop!

After my terrible performace at heathcote yesterday, Driving home I noticed that my car made a few "pop" sounds thru the airbox like if the timing was out. Today I had the timing checked and its fine.

I also noticed that my runs were getting .1 of a second slower each go AND the temp on the guage was getting higher ever run I did by the end of the run.

This seems to me to be a timing issue but the timing is correct? Could the dizzy itself be flogged? The car also doesnt want to start alot and backfires or "pops" through the airbox. It also has a rough'ish idle then normal.
its got New Leads, plugs, coil, dizzy cap, rotor button, injectors, fuel filter, fuel reg, fuel pump.

So far Im thinking the Hall effect sensor? or something other in the Dizzy?

Are you checking the timing in self test mode and how confident are you that the harmonic balancer is reading true. Those are the 2 most common causes of incorrect timing when it is checked.

Timing was checked as I always do, In diag mode and the harmonic balancer is spankin new ;)

The timing is spot on karl

The reason im thinking dizzy is EVERYTHING else in the ignition/fuel system has been changed. The motor has a roughish idle when its running anyway (shakes sorta like a worn enginemount but it isnt) and the PCV valve has made a nice indentation into the underbonnet felt.

what does the Hall effect sensor do? would that cause my dizzy to be acting wierd?

Yeah that does sound like something to do with timing. I've still got the dizzy from my old engine if you would like to purchase it from me :P

PSI wagon - from all Burson stores? Thats ALOT cheaper then buying all the parts themselves.

Ben - if it WORKS ill give you $10 off the seats :P

I just pulled all the intake stuff off, and discovered that the "hall effect sensor" has gone white with ALOT of white burn marks around it (well looks like that to me). Also The Dizzy cap spacer that goes under the rotor button, it had alot of fine metal shaving under it.

im getting its bad?
