If i remember correctly BMW Designed and built 500 BMW 7's powered by v12 which ran on both hydrogen and petrol.

I remember reading about the hydrogen fueled I6 a couple years ago in a motor mag. I just put it down to rumor, glad to see i was wrong.

Sorry if I'm slightly off topic here, but isn't the biggest issue not will it run/ignite; but how do you store it? Hydrogen is hugely abundant, and there have been a few production cars built and sold to the public that run fine, except (to my knowledge) storing the Hydrogen is amazingly complex?!

Sure it's great to see the trusty I6T running on Hydrogen, but has anyone solved the storing huge quantities (eg, hydrogen filling stations) for commercial sale?

The flame speed of hydrogen is significanty lower than petrol substances, under similar conditions. Hydrogen detonation though is a different story.

Hydrogen deposits onto the surface of many metals (allowing things like fuel cells to function) and in general it is mechanisms like this which most of the reaserch into storage is happening.

Extremly fine nickel powder deposited on a dense "sponge" like substrate allowing the hydrogen to deposite under high pressure and be released as pressure drops, and other things like this.

As far as i know, no one has got it working outside of lab type experiments though.

They used Hydrogen before Helium in Airships before the Hindenburg disaster - I'm not that sure they have solved anything with regards to storing the stuff. ALL I know is that it takes a lot more energy to keep the stuff cold about -270 odd deg than the energy you get from it - seems like a dead end to me.

Funny thing is, i read a few months ago that over in the Celeb areas of los angeles, they actually have Hydrogen servos. I can't remember who exactly, but a handful of celebrities own H powered production cars.

they only call it global warming in the hotter months . in winter when half the earth gets buried under snow every night they call it climate change .

BMW leased out a few Hydrogen 7 series to celebs.

In Japan Mazda have Hydrogen powered RX8's too, and some other manufacturers have hydrogen powered prototype fleets as well.
