Default Escort RS 2000

I'm looking at a 1979 RS 2000 for my son, what I want to Know , does the complience plate state RS 2000 or just BC escort .

If the complience plate does not state RS 2000 what is the model number for one?

Cheers Brett

I have a rally pack. If I'm not mistaken, the rally pack and rs2000 are mechanically identical and the only difference to a standard 2L escort is larger swaybar and short shift gearlever (could someone confirm?). Personally like the look of a rally pack over an RS2000 however I think theyre harder to come by, haven't seen that many around.

the rs had the same motor, diff, gearbox, shocks brakes etc as other 2L escorts. Only differences were the front/, rear swaybars , short throw shifter, steering wheel , scheel front seats, rear bumper , front nose cone.

There was a difference in the 2L engines though - i've been reading that there was both a hi compression and a low compression 2L pinto in the Escorts - i don't know which one was in what though.

i am 99% sure the high comp motors were fitted to manuals, while the low comps were fitted to autos.

In 20 years of playing around with pintos, I've yet to come across a low comp 2.0lt.....Anyone got one?......Then again, I haven't owned many 2.0lt autos (for long)....I'd heard they were in autos but yet to find one.

hmm interesting. Off topic i know but: I haven't looked at my engine to check which it is (i'm assuming high comp as it's a factory manual) yet but why would they make a high and a low compression engine for them?

the motors were the same in the late model escorts - black motor, gear box the same apart from the gear lever, carby, ignition all the same, differences was the front sway bar & it also had a rear one, the rear one was also on some rally packs as an option

Have a read here
