Default AU XR6 ST Original exhaust different?

When i first bought my limited edition XR6 ST, it had its original exhaust with the large oval tip which filled the rear bar nicely. Had a nice deep quiet idol, and had that stock sound wihch had a "sporty" feeling to it.

Is that exhaust any different to a standard XR6 or a standard AU?

OR was it all the same with different tips.

OR did the VCT motor just pump out a bit more noise than the other AU motors?

I can guarentee its the original exhaust, the tip wasnt re-welded and it was that reverse shaped tip which appeared to not flow with the bumper curve :P

Thanks in advance!!

Yes i know that....im using the tip to point out that the exhaust is genuine. The fact theres no cut and shut weld marks along the system means no one has tried to wack a different muffler or resi in.

i disagree..
for example, i had an oval tip and changed to a dump tip and noticed a change..

also on another car, went from twin 2 1/4 to a huge oval and it changed..

not a huge change, but slightly noticeable.

on the topic though..
i'm pretty sure the XR6 had a different exhaust as standard as opposed to the other VCT engined cars eg. ghia's and fairlanes..

Yes.

Different exhaust is the reason a standard XR6 has slightly higher kW than a standard Ghia.

The fairmont ghia had a 4kw resrictive exhaust. The xr6 had the same exhaust but different muffler. I have been looking at getting the exhaust done and was told that compared to the normal au i6, the vct has a nicer sound. But then again each car is different ;)

the HP and VCT's are two different engines mate...
if that what you mean...?

The HP engine has a different cam and the VCT has Variable cam timing which advances at higher revs..

XR6 live axle has the standard Falcon 6cyl exhaust and there is a different one for the IRS. I just replaced my original AU I XR6 exhaust and added an EF XR6 system to it, very nice too.

BTW, the IRS VCT XR 6cyl has twin mufflers centre and a single at the rear.

you might be right, but i was under the impression that the VCT was different altogether, hence why aftermarket cams for the VCT aren't readily available...

would be interesting to know for sure...

im pretty sure the only difference between the two was vct and non-vct and its the vct that interferes with the aftermarket cam swap

what i meant was that cam changes your exhaust note... i know its only very mild but its perhaps noticeable
to the OP... perhaps you have a hole in your muffler? my mum does and it sounds awesome.. used to be dead quiet but now it sounds like a sports exhaust lol
