Default Interesting NSW RTA Statistics

This data was sourced from the 2009 RTA statistics:

As of 30 June 2009 in NSW:

Sydney has 56% of registered vehicles

44% of vehicles are more then 10 yrs old

There are more then 700000 vehicles without airbags

70% of vehicles run on ULP, while 2% are Leaded, 9% Diesel, & 2% LPG (Includes Dual Fuel)

In 1970, there was 2 million registered drivers; In 2008 there was 4.6 million.

This equates to more then double the amount of registered drivers or a 21.2% increase (against population)

Cool stats, but makes me ask a few questions...

So how many road deaths in 1970 compared to 2009?
How many drivers were caught driving unregistered in 2009?

Oh, and what the others said!

The raw figures are:

5434 on "Other" Fuel
23939 "Unknown"
790,972 are trailers

This is out of about 5.3 Million vehicles

: 1309 is HUGE!

Interesting how articles are written, if involving speed camera's its how great the road toll is, when its about getting more of them its about how bad it is... you cant have it both ways FFS.

Also bear in mind that there is more than double the number of registered drivers in 2009 as opposed to 1970.

In 1970 there were no airbags, seat belts had only been arounf for 5 years so there were many cars without them.
No ABS, crumple zones, collapsing steering wheels etc etc.
Many main highways were still dirt and the bitumen ones were narrow, had blind corners and bad edges.

The BAC was 0.15,

Look at the number of prangs and then the number of deaths. More prangs now but less deaths, cars are safer.

Speeding was not such a huge issue as the average holden or falcon did about 130km/h flat our with most V8s doing maybe 150 to 180.

Only the "road going race cars" like GTHO etc went fast and even then not as fast as an average V8 commy or falc of today..
